Torrington swears in new police chief
TORRINGTON – The three stars pinned to the uniform of Torrington’s new police Chief William Baldwin Monday have a special meaning, he said: They represent his sons.
In a moving speech to a standing-room only crowd at the Torrington City Auditorium, Baldwin thanked his wife, Susan; his three young-adult sons, David, Michael and Nicholas; and his father, William Baldwin Sr.
In his remarks to colleagues and the public, Baldwin said, “Every community gets the law enforcement it insists on.”
Baldwin pledged to support his native city. “I believe Torrington holds the distinction as the finest police department in the state,” he said.
