Memorial Day parade cancellations announced
Based on concerns about the coronavirus pandemic, the following towns have canceled their Memorial Day celebrations.
Harwinton’s parade, set for May 25, has been canceled. Despite that decision, the Air Force National Guard’s 103 Airlift Wing (at Bradley airport) is intending to conduct flyovers over Connecticut towns on Memorial Day. These flyovers are in conjunction with Operation American Resolve to boost morale and demonstrate the Air Force’s continued readiness during the national COVID-19 response, while saluting the American heroes at the forefront in the fight against COVID-19.
The Harwinton American Legion Post 137 has planned a short, private tribute at the veterans war memorial on the town green and is working with the 103 AW to coordinate the town’s flyover time, to be announced.
Winchester’s parade has also been canceled. “This was a difficult decision,” said organizer Neil Hunt. “Please be sure to take the time to recognize and thank a veteran as well as pause in your daily activities to remember those who gave all.”
